Anderson Island

The "T-Gang" got together last week for double celebrations: to enjoy the hospitatlity of the Browns upon completion of their "get-away" home on the island. Anderson is one of the southern-most islands in Puget Sound. It is small and very undisturbed. The other reason was to honor Lee and Roger White as they leave for a 6-month temple mission to Nauvoo!
This is an old pier alongside the ferry landing

We toured the whole island on backroads (the only kind!), and the following photos are of one of the original homesteads, from about 1850. I think nothing has been done since the family vacated who-knows-how-long-ago.

I got up really early one morning to walk through the woods about 2 blocks to a litte lake. I missed the sunrise by just a few minutes! Phooey. Still, it was so quiet, with just me and the ducks.

more from Anderson Island

We are still in awe of the home Larry Brown built by himself! He was in the temple presidency the entire time, and yet did this over the last two years. What a hobby, huh? This is the view from the front; the approach to the house.
And this is how the home is situated; it was so peaceful!
The ferry to the island is a small one. I can't believe how serious and "retired" this group of folks looks! Usually we are laughing and talking non-stop. Dick, Maile in the background, Roger and Lee White. The Whites leave this week for a 6-month temple mission in Nauvoo.
Gorgeous kitchen! Gorgeous gals! Drue Brown, Yours Truly, Maile Beckman, Lee White
I love madrona trees; they are native to the island and some, like this one, are very old

CARTER'S EAGLE PROJECT!

Carter, in consultation with professional landscape advisor.

Work takes place around the all-important Big Rock

View from the east, behind the Big Rock. Preparations take place there too.
The planting must go on, no matter what the weather!
Many young scouts from Carter's troop, friends and family work hard in spite of nasty weather.

CARTER'S EAGLE PROJECT!

This is the kind of weather in which they worked. After the big rock, rock swale was spread, then the beautiful black topsoil - which was like "stepping in wet cement".

Here's Jeff!
And Dick, in his trusty yellow Nor'wester!
